In a moment that will be etched in Tamil Nadu's political history, C Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at Chennai's Nehru Indoor Stadium on Sunday. Even before the ceremony began, every camera pan to Vijay sent the packed stadium into a roar — and when he began his oath with "C Joseph Vijay ennum naan," the crowd erupted in a frenzy, momentarily pausing the proceedings.
What stood out was how Vijay rendered the oath — with power and complete confidence, entirely by heart, without once glancing at the transcript in Tamil. His full oath, translated to English, read:
"I, C Joseph Vijay, do swear in the name of God that I will have true faith and unwavering allegiance to the Constitution of India as established by law; that I will uphold the unmatched sovereignty and unity of India; that I will truthfully and conscientiously carry out my duties as the Chief Minister of the Government of Tamil Nadu; and that, in accordance with the Constitution and the law, without fear, bias, likes or dislikes, I will do what is just for all sections of people."
Following Vijay's oath, prominent TVK leaders including N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, and Sengottaiyan, among nine others, were sworn in as cabinet ministers. TVK, which won 108 seats, has formed a coalition with the Indian National Congress, with CPI, CPI(M), IUML, and VCK offering external support.
Vijay's political rise has been remarkably swift — formally launching TVK in 2024 and converting his massive fan base into electoral momentum within just two years. His trajectory has already drawn comparisons with legendary actor-politician NT Rama Rao, who reshaped Andhra Pradesh politics after his own entry into public life.
