After a much-publicised halt, the shoot for Silambarasan and Vetri Maaran's Arasan has resumed, with STR himself confirming the news via an Instagram story featuring a candid photo of him and the director in deep conversation on set.
The shoot had stalled due to a long-standing dispute between Silambarasan and producer Ishari K Ganesh, rooted in a disagreement that followed the release of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu. Reports suggest the actor had agreed to do a new film with the producer and received an advance of Rs 5 crore, which never took off — with Silambarasan largely held responsible for the delay.
Set in the Vada Chennai universe, Arasan features an impressive ensemble — Vijay Sethupathi reportedly playing a cop, Andrea Jeremiah and Samuthirakani reprising their original roles, and Kishore expected to return as well. Yogalakshmi, Yogi Babu, and Jibin Gopinath round out the cast in key roles. Notably, Dhanush's character Anbu is not part of this spin-off.
Interestingly, Arasan's screenplay is an iteration of what Vetri Maaran had originally written for Vada Chennai when Silambarasan was first in line for the project — before Dhanush eventually came on board. The film will see STR in a dual avatar — as a youngster and as an aged man.
Kalaipuli S Thanu produces under V Creations, with Anirudh scoring the music — marking his first collaboration with both Silambarasan and Vetri Maaran together.
