Not just the widely reported Jana Nayagan but another Pongal 2026 release Parasakthi has also not yet received its censor certificate, confirming concerns over both films' release this Tamil holiday season. Jana Nayagan starring Vijay in the lead is the actor's last movie that is scheduled to release on January 9, 2026. However a delay in censor certification unearthed that the Central Board of Film Certification in India (CBFC) is dissatisfied with certain depictions like the Indian defence emblems without proper consultaton in the movie, and hence a revising committee viewing was suggested last minute. 

Update: Jana Nayagan is postponed from its scheduled January 9, 2026 release, and the new release date will be announced soon, confirm KVN Productions in an official statement.

Jana Nayagan makers challenged CBFC's decision in Madras High Court citing that it puts their Rs. 500 Cr. film in jeopardy. The movie faces postponement, as there is no clarity on when the high court decision will be out on the issue. Meanwhile the Dawn Pictures-produced Parasakthi starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead is another highly anticipated Pongal film that is scheduled to release on January 10, 2026. 

Parasakthi too hasn't received its censor certificate from the CBFC board in India, with only two days left for the film's release. Tamil film fans mainly of actors Vijay, Sivakarthikeyan, Suriya, and Ajith, have reacted to the situation in a humourous manner. Some of their hilarious tweets:
