OTT app JioHotstar to promote Tamil Nadu talents with South Unbound initiative!

JioStar, the joint Indian venture between Disney India, Reliance Industries, and the latter's subsidiary Viacom 18, is the largest entertainment network in the country operating over a 100 TV channels, and an OTT service/streaming app called the JioHotStar. A new initiative called the 'JioHotstar South Unbound' is all set to be launched by the streaming service in Tamil Nadu, with the objective of reaffirming 'commitment to supporting talent development'.

 

Over the weekend, the official handle of JioHotstar Tamil posted updates on formally inviting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, and star actor-MP Kamal Haasan to their December 9, 2025 (Tuesday) launch event. The team led by Krishnan Kutty, Head Entertainment Business, South Cluster, called on the CM on Saturday, December 6, 2025, and Kamal Haasan on Sunday, December 7, 2025. 

 

 

The official press note on 'JioHotstar South Unbound' describes the flagship event as a 'landmark celebration of Southern cinema and creativity', and a new slate of contents are expected to be announced on December 9, 2025. JioHotstar OTT app has committed to producing 40 to 50 originals specifically for South Indian markets and increasing the combined runtime of regional content from 500 hours to 1,100 hours (approximately). 

 

JioStar also plans to collaborate with film and media institutes in Tamil Nadu, and invest in 'capacity-building initiatives to strengthen the state's creative ecosystem and empower emerging storytellers'. The 'JioHotstar South Unbound' event will be inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and actor-politician and Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Haasan.
