Vaa Vaathiyaar is an upcoming action comedy written and directed by Nalan Kumarasamy of Soodhu Kavvum (2013), Kaadhalum Kadandhu Pogum (2016) fame, and the film stars actor Karthi in the lead role of a fun police inspector named Rameshwaram. Vaa Vaathiyaar releases in theaters on December 5, 2025, and in a recent interview, Nalan Kumarasamy has revealed the Vaa Vaathiyaar plot.
“I wanted to make a proper action-masala film like the ones we used to get in the 80s and 90s. The story of Vaa Vaathiyaar is about an MGR fan (Rajkiran) who believes that his grandson (Karthi) has some sort of connection with MGR. As time passes, that boy grows up to become Ramu (Inspector Rameshwaram)—a fun-loving and easygoing police officer. Certain unexpected things happen that puts his grandfather’s life in danger, and Vaa Vaathiyaar plot is about how Ramu transforms after that point”, revealed Nalan Kumarasamy.
Vaa Vaathiyaar pays homage to late actor politician MG Ramachandran (MGR), who famously earned the nickname 'Vaathiyaar' after the Vaangaiya Vaathiyaar Ayya song from his movie Nam Nadu (1969). The movie produced by Studio Green has Krithi Shetty playing female lead, and also stars Sathyaraj as villain, Karunakaran as a cop, Anand Raj, among others.
The technical crew of Vaa Vaathiyaar includes Santhosh Narayanan for music, George C. Williams for cinematography, D.R.K.Kiran for production design, Vetre Krishnan for edits, ‘Anl’ Arasu for action, Vishnu Govind for audiography, Vivek, Muthamil for lyrics, and Sandy / M Sherif for choreography.
