KVN Productions backed Jana Nayagan, touted to be an official remake of the Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari (2023), is actor Vijay's last film before his debut elections in 2026. Vijay is leaving his 33 year old film career for his foray into politics, and Jana Nayagan directed by H Vinoth is the actor's final bow that is releasing on January 9, 2026.
Buzz in Kollywood film circles suggests that to mark Vijay's last film, directors who've worked with him namely Atlee, Nelson Dhilipkumar, and Lokesh Kanagaraj, will be making cameos as journalists in Jana Nayagan. This update has reminded Tamil movie buffs of director Sundar C's cameo as a journalist in his own film Arunachalam (1997), which came at the peak of Rajinikanth's real life political ambitions at that time, and teased an onscreen depiction of the same.

Bhagavanth Kesari written and directed by Anil Ravipudi, follows the story of an ex-cop turned prisoner, who upon release from jail becomes the guardian of his friend's daughter. Why this cop left the squad and ended in jail, and how he manages to get his friend's daughter interested in joining the Indian Army, as per her late father's wish, is what forms the rest of the movie.
While Vijay plays the ex-cop turned prisoner in Jana Nayagan, Mamitha Baiju plays the friend's daughter, Bobby Deol reprises Arjun Rampal's villain role, and Pooja Hegde plays the female lead reprising the doctor role from Bhagavanth Kesari. Jana Nayagan has Anirudh Ravichander for music.
