Actor Karthi has done six films with his cousins SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu under their banner Dream Warrior Pictures. Three of these movies—Saguni (2012), Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (2017), Kaithi (1029)—have been career-defining hits for not just Karthi but also two of Tamil Cinema's leading directors—H. Vinoth and Lokesh Kanagaraj. 

Dream Warrior Pictures announced in 2024 that their seventh film with Karthi is a project tentatively titled Karthi 29. Since then it has been unofficially revealed that Karthi 29 is titled Marshal, with Kalyani Priyadarshan playing female lead, and actors Nivin Pauly, Sathyaraj, Vadivelu playing important characters. Nani is also expected to be making a cameo in Marshal, though Karthi 29 cast and crew awaits official announcement. 

This Karthi 29 is now all set to begin with a pooja ceremony at Prasad Studios, Chennai on July 10, 2025 (Thursday). The announcement poster of Karthi 29 revealed last year that the film's genre is sea adventure. The period gangster movie is all set to be shot in coastal areas of Rameshwaram, with Taanakkaran (2022) director Tamizh at the helm.  

Santhosh Narayanan is said to be composing music for Karthi 29/Marshal.
