Director Karthik Subbaraj is currently gearing up for the Diwali release of his November 10, 2023 release Jigarthanda DoubleX. During the promotional leg of the film, the filmmaker was asked about a possible collaboration with actor Vijay. Vijay and Karthik Subbaraj have never done a film together, but the director was spotted at the film launch of Vijay's last movie Leo. 

Apparently Karthik Subbaraj had narrated two different scripts to Vijay previously - one after Iraivi (2016) starring SJ Suryah and the other after Rajinikanth starrer Petta (2019). However Vijay did not like either scripts, and Karthik went on to do movies with Dhanush (Jagame Thandhiram) and Vikram (Mahaan) after Petta. 

Incidentally it was 7 Screen Studio, producers of Vijay's Master (2021) and Leo (2023) that produced Mahaan as well; Lalit Kumar from the banner has previously revealed that Vijay had called him to take his case about releasing Mahaan directly on OTT instead of in theaters first. Suffice to say, Vijay holds Karthik Subbraj in good regards as a filmmaker. 

Karthik Subbaraj has now said that he has a third script ready for Vijay, and that if the actor is open to narrations post Thalapathy 68 (Vijay's ongoing project), the director will be more than ready to give him one. However Vijay is also gearing up for an ambitious political entry in 2026, and it is suggested that the Leo star will be taking a break after Thalapathy 68 to focus on his political career.
