Jawan Audio Launch: Why Atlee's mention of Vijay was edited

Jawan is an upcoming Bollywood movie starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead which is all set to release in theaters on September 7, 2023 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu among other languages. The film's audio launch event which was part of the movie's pre-release promotions, took place in Chennai on August 30, 2023 [Wednesday]. Jawan audio launch was then telecast on Sun TV on September 3, 2023 [Sunday].

Fan-shot videos from the event has trended on social media for 4 days before the satellite telecast, and one of the few things the Tamil audience were looking forward to was mentions of actor Vijay by director Atlee. Atlee who is making his Bollywood debut with Jawan had attributed Vijay as the first motivation behind him directing a Hindi film. Atlee had also declared himself as a Vijay loyalist on stage, as a testament to his long standing friendship with the star actor.

Seemingly these portions were cut from the telecast version of the Jawan audio launch, irking some Vijay fans online. However Sun TV was quick to clarify that while it was their channel which aired the event, the final edit was decided on by Gokulam Movies which is releasing Jawan in Tamil Nadu.

Audio launch events in Tamil Nadu have become film-release kryptonite, and speeches made on such stages have most often fired up Kollywood fan-wars. Some fans online speculate that Gokulam Cinemas may have edited out parts of director Atlee's speech [which the filmmaker mentions was not prepared in advance], to avoid irking other fandoms.

Jawan has been heavily promoted in Tamil Nadu, owing to the number of Kollywood actors and technicians that has worked on the film. Shah Rukh Khan who has also produced the movie mentioned at the audio launch event that he wants the Tamil audience to see what he has learnt from each of these Tamil cine names, and how he has presented his learnings.
