Previously we had reported that director Atlee's highly buzzed reunion with actor Vijay will not be for Thalapathy 68 (tentative title), which is Vijay's next film after Leo. It has now been confirmed that Atlee will not be directing Vijay anytime soon since the filmmaker has signed another Bollywood project after Jawan, that is releasing September 8, 2023.

Atlee is all set to direct Bollywood star Varun Dhawan in his next, and this project is expected to go on floors even before Jawan's release in July/August. Previously Atlee was buzzed to be directing Vijay for the 4th time after Bigil (2019), Mersal (2017) and Theri (2016) in the filmmaker's own cinematic universe. The director was said to be extending Vijay's cameo in Jawan into a full-fledged lead role. 

Directors who have so far been linked to Thalapathy 68 include Telugu filmmaker Gopichand Malineni and more recently, Tamil filmmakers Venkat Prabhu and Karthik Subbaraj. It remains to be seen who will end up helming Vijay in his next.
