Vetrimaaran directed Viduthalai: Part 1 starring Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Menon is a neo-noir movie adapted from B. Jeyamohan's short story Thunaivan. The movie's release date has been officially announced as March 31, 2023, and it is expected to clear censor formalities today. 

Viduthalai: Part 1 will see Soori play a police constable who rises to the occassion when the situation demands. Vijay Sethupathi plays leader of a separatist group called the 'people's army', and he is on the most wanted list of the police. Viduthalai: Part 1's story surrounds elements like misuse of power, police brutality and wrongful arrests.  

Produced by Vetrimaaran's Grassroot Film Company and RS Infotainment, Viduthalai Part 1 is being released via Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies in Tamil Nadu. The movie has Ilaiyaraaja for music, Zee 5 as OTT partner, and Kalaignar TV as satellite partner. Sony Music holds the audio rights.
