Director Lokesh Kanagaraj currently holds the reigns to a franchise-coup called the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), where movies from different production companies share crossovers and stars. LCU was kicked off by a 2019 movie titled Kaithi starring actor Karthi in the lead, and produced by SR Prabhu's Dream Warrior Pictures. 

A sequel to this film titled Kaithi 2 was confirmed by Lokesh after the release of his second LCU project Vikram (2022) - starring and produced by Kamal Haasan, and before the director began his latest LCU outing Leo (2023) with Vijay in the lead. 

MovieCrow hears music composer Sam CS, who was hailed for his score in Kaithi has been retained to compose for Kaithi 2 as well. An official announcement on the same however awaits. Karthi plays an ex-convict named Dilli in Kaithi and his background of a Kabbadi player while in jail and his connection to a bakery are expected to be unveiled in Kaithi 2 and Leo respectively. 

Lokesh Kanagaraj has previously also said that plotholes between Kaithi and Vikram, like how how Anbu played by actor Arjun Das was killed in the former and later showed up alive in the latter, will be explained with details in Kaithi 2.
