Rajinikanth to fulfill late comedian Mayilsamy's last wish

Tamil comedy actor Mayilsamy who started out as a mimicry artiste in the film industry died of heart attack, aged 57 on Sunday i.e. February 19, 2023. Addressing the media at Mayilsamy's funeral, actor Rajinikanth said,

"Mr. Mayilsamy is a long time friend of mine. I have known him since he was 23-24 years old...He was a mimicry artiste at first then he ventured into comedy acting. He was a big MGR fan, a bigger Shiv bhakth (devotee of Hindu God Shiva). We used to meet oftentime..but never spoke about cinema, but only about MGR or Shivan. Even though we'd been close friends, I couldn't understand why we never did many movies together. Every year he went to Thiruvannamalai for Karthigai Deepam [A festival of lights celebrated by Tamils], got excited at the waves of crowd as though they've come to see the first day show of his movie and used to phone me without fail to update on the same. Last year I was shooting during his multiple calls and I was supposed to return an apology call but somehow forgot. He is now not anymore.

Comedy actors Vivek and Mayilsamy's loss is not just a loss to (Tamil) cinema or their friends but also to the society. Both of them were great thinkers and contributors to this society. His (Mayilsamy's) passing away on Shivaraatri is not a coincidence but (points to the sky) his calculation. He (Lord Shiva) has called his pious devotee (Mayilsamy) to himself on his (Lord Shiva's) apt day.

I didn't have any words to tell Mayilsamy's family...I pray to God that a good future is set for Mayilsamy's heir (son Arumainayagam aka Anbu) in this cinema industry."

As Rajinikanth was concluding, a reporter brought up Mayilsamy's last known wish he had shared with Drums Shivamani while attending the February 17 Shivratri event at the Kelambakkam Shivan Temple in Chennai. Drums Shivamani had previously shared with the media,

"Actor Mayilsamy did not go to Tiruvannamalai this year for Maha Shivratri which he had done for several years. He asked me to go to the Shiva temple in Kelambakkam and we both got the grace of Shiva by singing the songs of Vidhiya Shiva. Mayilsamy left for home around 3 am. At around that time I sent a voice message thanking Mayilsami.. At 5 AM, a call came from his number and I got the news of his death.

(Back at the temple) Mayilsamy had told me, "I have brought (late) Vivek sir to this temple. I brought you (Drums Shivamani) too. and my last wish is to bring Superstar Rajinikanth to this temple and and get him to do the milk abhishekam on the linga here."

Rajinikanth responded to this by stating, "I too heard about it (Mayilsamy's last wish). I will talk to Shivamani..I will get the details and will definitely fulfill Mayilsamy's last wish."
