Actors Rajinikanth and Jackie Shroff starred alongsode each other in the 1987 Hindi movie Uttar Dakshin, and reunited on the photorealisitic motion capture movie Kochadaiiyaan: The Legend in 2014. However the actors never shared screen-space on a live action movie since Uttar Dakshin and this is finally happening after 36 years with Jailer (2023). 

Written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer is touted to be an action drama based on prison and its inmates and Sun Pictures, producers of the movie confirmed Jackie's presence with a still. The movie comes with a plethora of star-names like Kannada actor Shivarajkumar, Malayalam star Mohanlal, Telugu actor Sunil, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan among others. 

Jailer has Anirudh for music and is expected to release for Tamil New Year in April. Actors Yogi Babu, Vinayakan, Vasanth Ravi, dancer Ramesh are also a part of the film's cast, whereas Sivakarthikeyan is said to be playing young Rajini in the movie.
