The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have unveiled the list of film people it has extended invitations tom for joining the organization in 2022. Among the 397 invitees, were 5 Indian names - actor Suriya, actress Kajol, filmmaker Reema Kagti, and documentary directors Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas.

Suriya has now become the first Tamil actor to be extended an invitation to join the Oscars committee. Indian film personalities who are already a part of the organization include Oscar winning music composer AR Rahman, actors Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Vidya Balan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Ali Afzal and producers Aditya Chopra, Guneet Monga, Ekta Kapoor, and Shobha Kapoor.
