Ashwin Kumar trolled for speech at Enna Solla Pogirai audio launch!

Cooku With Comali is a reality comedy show on Vijay TV and Ashwin Kumar is a name that became synonymous with season 2 of that show. The actor who has played supporting roles in films such as OK Kanmani, Enai Noki Paayum Thota, Adhitya Varma, Oh Manapenne, is debuting as a lead with the upcoming movie Enna Solla Pogirai. The audio launch of this event took place on Monday and Ashwin Kumar's speech from the event was not only strongly criticized online, but also became meme fodder. 

 

 

Ashwin Kumar's claim that he had listened to 40 stories but slept during the narration of all of it, was seen as a disrespect towards the story-tellers of Kollywood. The actor was later quoted by DT Next as clarifying, "I didn’t intend to disrespect any of the directors, who narrated stories to me. I never imagined that my speech would backfire this bad..”

 

The Cooku With Comali alum further claimed, "I haven’t listened to 40 stories before. We all come up with random numbers when we talk to friends or relatives..I am being a victim of hate by a few people whose films I turned down. They need to understand that it wasn’t out of disrespect,”

 

It is worth mentioning here that even fans of Ashwin Kumar have expressed that his speech could have been better worded and the demanour of it better toned. [Update: The actor has now explicitly apologized for this incident]
