In a breaking new development, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sent an order to K. Shanmugam, Chief Secretary to Tamil Nadu Government to revoke the controversial permission he issued for movie theaters in the state.
It was pointed out to the Tamil Nadu government that increasing the theater seating capacity from 50% to 100% even with standard operating procedures (SOPs**) in place 'dilutes' the center's order issued under the DM Act, 2005 on December 28, 2020.
The government of Tamil Nadu has also been requested to revoke the permission with immediate effect.
