Happy birthday to the extremely talented actor Parvathy Thiruvothu!

Akash

From looking like the girl next door alongside heroes, to playing impactful roles in good content films and finally landing numerous extraordinary, female-centric films that require no hero at all, the very name Parvathy Thiruvothu demands for respect. The supremely talented actor celebrates her birthday today (April 7) and in the year 2020, it is quite hard to look beyond her if you are searching for an actor of pure mettle! Why is Parvathy so special and what has she contributed to cinema through her performances and script choices?

Her filmography ranges from good films that she was a part of, to films that were made solely for the performer that she is! She is one of the most versatile actors to be seen in recent years and has changed the idea of the requirement of regular hero worship, to the very absurd idea of having a namesake heroine character, who dances for songs and romantic scenes with no relation to the script! The very purpose of the characters that she has played in her excellent set of films have a great deal of importance and has a lot to do with the plotlines of the films! On her birthday, here is a set of her best films and why you must watch them:

Poo (Tamil) [Streaming: ]

Playing a young village girl Maari, this film is about the character falling in love with her cousin Thangarasu. She sacrifices her love in the hope that he will lead a happy life being married to a wealthy girl.

Maryan (Tamil) [Streaming: Amazon Prime ]

Bharat Bala’s film co-starring Dhanush saw Parvathy play the beautiful Panimalar. She is in love with Maryan and has to stay away from him due to life’s circumstances. With so much pain and angst, this survival drama was well carried out by the pretty Parvathy!

Bangalore Days (Malayalam) [Streaming: Hotstar ]

A quick jump from the pretty, ‘dark long’ haired girl, to the Radio Jockey Sarah doing away with her mane in an uber cool boy cut, this was a transformation of sorts! This fantastic film Bangalore Days is a must watch for the natural feel-good factor and amazing performances!

Ennu Ninte Moideen (Malayalam) [Streaming: Hotstar ]

The Hindu-Muslim love story sees Parvathy play Kanchanamala. After facing numerous setbacks they unite after a long time, only to become victims of a hapless fate.

Charlie (Malayalam) [Streaming: MX Player ]

Next up is the brilliant Charlie! Here she plays Tessa, a graphic artist who runs away from home to avoid her marriage and does so with class. Dulquer scores well as the vagabond Charlie and the movie has some seasoned technicalities too A must watch!

Take Off (Malayalam) [Streaming: Hotstar]

Sameera in Take Off, is one of the best characters played by Parvathy. Playing a nurse in Kerala who is moving to Iraq for a better salary, the variations she brings to each role are just outstanding. Shouldered by her and well aided by Fahadh Faasil, Asif Ali and Kunchako Boban, Take Off is highly recommended too!

Koode (Malayalam) [Streaming: ]

This psychological drama film has Parvathy playing Sophie, a childhood sweetheart of Prithviraj (Josh), who ended up marrying an alcoholic man and suffered domestic violence before divorcing him. A very different kind of a character that even contemplates suicide. Quite well carried out by the actor!

Uyare (Malayalam) [Streaming: Netflix ]

Easily the best work of Parvathy Thiruvothu who plays an acid attack survivor. Pallavi aspires to be a pilot but her career is jeopardised when she falls victim to an acid attack by Govind, an obsessive man who was formerly her boyfriend. A definite watch for Parvathy fans and those who love good cinema!

Virus (Malayalam) [Streaming: Amazon ]

This film on the Nipah virus has Parvathy playing the character of Dr.Anu. The state of Kerala faces a tremendous outbreak of the life-threatening Nipah virus. However, a group of courageous individuals risk their lives in an attempt to curb the epidemic.
