A short take on OTT releases of the week!

Trance - Malayalam(Amazon Prime) 

Genre [psychological /drama]

One of those films that is likely to leave you unsure of whether you liked it or not. But as long as it is on, it keeps you interested despite a feel of what the heck is actually happening for most of the second half. Fahadh is a monster in the film and his performance is what has you glued all through. There couldn't have been a more apt title for a film that has you in a state of bewilderment, thanks to his leading man and some audacious editing and cinematography!  

HIT: The first case - Telugu (Amazon Prime)

Genre [Crime/Investigation/Thriller]

A competent thriller that keeps you guessing. The performances are in the right meter and the making is solid. The ambiguity of the protagonist is neatly brought out.The closure might not have logical issues but the motive behind the crime and a convenient sort of ending does pull down the film a tad.

Sethum Ayiram Pon - Tamil (Netflix)

Genre [Drama]

This direct to OTT film is nice attempt to narrate a rather simple tale of an urban youngster getting a brief period of connect with her roots.There is earnestness, some nice low key performances and even some unabashedly interesting scenes like the brawl that happens between two women at a funeral(look out for the way the cuss words and even the topic of sex gets spoken about in the open with the minimim of fuss)! But an emotional or cinematic high is what this film needed and that somehow doesn't happen.
