Recently we had reported about a potential biopic on former Srilankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan with Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. The project has now been officially confirmed and it will be directed by M.S. Sripathy. The makers plan to get the movie made in Tamil and then release in other languages and Muralitharan himself has confirmed that they plan to release the film by 2020.

Apparently the former spinner has also been actively involved in the creative process of the project for quite sometime now and of Sethupathi playing him on-screen he has been quoted as saying, “I am honoured that an accomplished actor like Vijay Sethupathi will be playing me in the film."

Joining the list of films inspired from real-life cricketers such as MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Azhar and Sachin: A Billion Dreams, the Muttiah Muralitharan biopic is said to have been titled 800 (the number of test wickets taken by him) though it hasn't been officially confirmed as yet.
