Preview of TVSK, Thillu Mullu and Man of Steel

This weekend will see the clash of two comic capers -- ‘Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru’ (TVSK) and ‘Thillu Mullu’. While TVSK comes from the seasoned director Sundar C, Thillu Mullu is the remake of K Balachander and Rajinikanth’s yesteryear classic.

Another movie that is expected to do well at the multiplexes is $225 Million "Man of Steel" (Superman). This Hollywood superhero movie will be released in 180 screens all over Tamil Nadu by Producer & Director Ramanarayanan.

Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru

Sundar C’s ‘TVSK’ has Siddharth, Santhanam, Hansika, RJ Balaji, Ganesh Venkatraman in key roles. Vishal, Rana Daggubati and Samantha have done cameo acts in the film. The movie is distributed by UTV Motion Pictures. Music is by Sathya and cinematography is done by "Pizza" fame Gopi Amarnath.

  • Sundar C is a very reliable director when it comes to making comical family entertainer. His last film ‘Kalakalappu’ was declared a hit across all centres. UTV Motion Pictures, who had a few forgettable outings recently, will be hoping for a hit with this film.
  • It will be interesting to see how Siddharth fares in a full length comedy movie. Apart from ‘Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi’ and his recent David Dawan outing in Hindi, Siddharth has not tried the slapstick comedy genre. With Santhanam on board, one can be guaranteed of witty one-liners.

Thillu Mullu (2013)

Thillu Mullu is a risky attempt by director Badri at remaking a classic from legendary director K Balachander and Superstar Rajinikanth. The star cast for the latest edition includes Shiva, Isha Talwar, Prakash Raj, Sathyan, Manobala and Kovai  Sarala.

  • It is usually not a good idea to remake a Classic. It would have been a difficult task to modify the Thillu Mullu script suitable to current generation without diluting the essence of the original film. The scenes in teasers were filled with flat jokes tempering the expectations.
  • Music is jointly scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja and MS Viswanathan. Couple of songs have managed to garner people’s attention.
  • Director Visu has lodged a complaint against "Thillu Mullu" since he was the writer for the original version that was released 32 years ago.

Final Words

So far, Theeya Velai Seyyanum Kumaru carries a good buzz. Thanks to aggressive UTV promotions, TVSK will be the audience pick of the weekend. However, the equation could very well change after the first show. With Theeya Velai Seyyanum Kumaru and Thillu Mullu targeting the same audience belonging to similar genre, the success of one is expected to cannibalize the prospects of the other.

Watch out for the reviews of both these movies!
