Pa. Ranjith granted anticipatory bail in Raja Raja Cholan case!

Pa. Ranjith's remarks about medieval Tamil King Raja Raja Chozhan had landed the director of films like Kaala, Kabali and Madras in trouble with the Thanjavur Police and he had moved court seeking anticipatory bail in lieu of the same.

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday granted the same on the condition that he should not be making such remarks in future. The court also noted that custodial interrogation for a public personality like Pa. Ranjith was not required.

Following Ranjith's controversial remarks that Raja Raja Chozhan indulged in land-grabbing and women trading, the Thiruppananthal (Thanjavur district) police had registered a case under sections 153 and 153 (A)(1)(a) of the IPC.

A huge furore from the public followed too, though some people from the film and theater industry came in support of the director, with a petition to the Tamil Nadu government asking them intervene in the matter.
