Yaaruda Mahesh Review - Strictly for youngsters

Not long ago, the trailer of ‘Yaaruda Mahesh’ created a storm in the social media circles. The trailer was promising and people expected the movie to be a fun watch. Does the movie live up to the hype created by the trailer? The answer will neither be a yes or no as the movie is a fun ride hindered with uninteresting moments. The movie does not offer anything new, but the interesting treatment is what sets the movie apart.

Plot

The story revolves around the happy-go-lucky guy Shiva (Sundeep Kishan) who falls in love with Sindhya (Dimple). Shiva manages to woo her and marry her but a mystery man Mahesh enters into the story at the stroke of intermission. Shiva is joined by his friend Vasanth (Jagan) to find out who Mahesh is.
 

Performances

Sundeep Kishan, who made his debut in Kollywood with ‘Maranthen Mannithen’ looks more confident on screen in this film. He fits into the role of a careless guy convincingly. Dimple has little scope for expressions and she is used more for glamour quotient in songs. It is Jagan’s one-liners that keep the audience engaged in the movie throughout. Without his presence, the movie might have been a dull affair.

Technicalities

Music is by Gopi Sunder and two songs are hummable. But, the background score is too loud at times. Also, the item song in the first half is more of an effort to please the front benchers and other songs too appear at regular intervals, acting as speed breakers. Raana’s camera work is praise-worthy and he makes the movie technically slick. The song sequence that has been shot in exotic locations has been picturized beautifully.

Script and Direction – Madhan Kumar

The movie is rated ‘A’ and rightly so. Director Madhan Kumar has made a script that completely relies on double entendres and although they work out most of the times, one might feel it is overdone. The screenplay is treated in a light-hearted way and youngsters might find it engaging.

The movie manages to entertain the audience for most part of the running time but things get monotonous after a while. The second half drags a lot and needed trimming. While some of the sequences look really fresh, few sequences in the second half (especially the mimicry scene) fall flat.

Bottomline

‘Yaaruda Mahesh’ is strictly meant for youngsters. They might end up enjoying the movie if they sit through some flat jokes.
