The film 'Nungambakkam' is based on the 2016 sensational murder of a techie Swathi at Nungambakkam railway station by her stalker Ramkumar. The film initially titled Swathi Kolai Vazhakku has been renamed as Nungambakkam. The trailer of the film was launched yesterday by Vishal, director SA Chandrasekar and Arya in the film's trailer launch event.

The film is based on murder of Swathi, the 24-year-old software engineer, and the real life incidents surrounding the subsequent investigation. Swathi was murdered in the Nungambakkam railway station on June 24 2016, in the morning as she was waiting for a train. An accused in the case, Ramkumar, who was caught a few months later, committed suicide by biting a live wire inside prison in September that year.

The movie stars Ajmal, playing the lead role of an investigating officer and a host of newcomers playing supporting roles. Director Ramesh Selvan has helmed the project.
