Dhuruva Natchathiram - A first for a Gautham Menon film

Gautham Menon's update on Dhruva Natchathiram created waves yesterday for two reasons;  for releasing its first look and for giving away the release slot (August 2017). Rarely has it happened with a Menon project that the release date was announced this well in advance. Keeping aside the astonishment factor, one can say that Menon is not leaving any stone unturned in the revival of his highly ambitious project which was earlier shelved once and failed to take off the other time after coming very close to revival.

The movie which now has Vikram playing its lead character John/Joshua, was originally written for Suriya and the project went into production with AR Rahman as its musician. The movie even had a title-design release (very similar to the current title-card) and a pooja ceremony, but was shelved due to the highly publicized fall-out between the lead actor and the director. Creative differences in the script was said to be the reason for the fall-out back then. When this hiatus was long-forgotten, composer Harris Jayaraj (during one of his fan interactions) revealed that then-shelved Dhruva Natchathiram is looking at a revival with him as the musician and Jayam Ravi as the lead. However, the semi-announced project failed to take off due to budgetary constraints back then.

Taking all this into account, Gautham Menon seems like he has planned his current revival meticulously by taking a leaf from the lessons learnt back then. Announcing the release date (which according to close sources is August 11, 2017) happens to be the biggest proof of it. Inside sources also tell that every aspect of the movie right from the cast, crew and even the production has been well planned and the team is working full-fledgedly on releasing the movie on the said date.
