Kathakali  Songs - Music Review

- Akilan Nagarajan, Reviewpuram

Azhage:  Aadhi gets off right away, to some extremely light trance music. Though the song doesn’t really sound like his cup of tea, it is easy to get the hang of the tune for the slow rush that it provides. A soothing listen on the whole.

Kathakali Theme

Starting with simple beats from Kerala, the track gets heavy as it moves into uncharted technoterritory. There is an interesting bit where the duo uses a whisper to escalate the tension. Transforms into an entirely techno number towards the end.

Erangi Vandhu

The typical uplifting colourful into number of our masala cinema, gets a fair share of the composers’ electric twists in this uncanny Antony Dasan vehicle. Hard to like as a standalone listen, this song will have to be complemented with good choreography and visuals.

Kathakali Whistle

This swashbuckling theme track enters disguised on a cheerful note, and goes onto end the album on a high. Works better than the other instrumental. A more compact version of the earlier, this one is sure to score on the big screen.

This album is quite the exploration for a commercial film. The music has quite the recall value, and if the film scores, the songs and the theme especially will have their field day among the audience. Having had a dream run in 2015 by hitting all the right notes, Hip Hop Tamizha is ending the year on an experimental high.
