Sony Music buys audio rights for Maattrraan

Maattrraan Update - Sony Music buys audio rights

Sony Music has bought the audio rights for Maattrraan reportedly for a large sum of Rs.2 Crores. This come as no surprise since Sony Music has been snatching most of the recent Harris Jayaraj albums. The audio rights of Rs. 2 Crores for Maattrraan is almost as high as it can get in Tamil music industry where the growth is flat due to illegal music ripping and downloads.

Eros International had recently bought the Tamil audio rights along with theatrical rights for Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. Since Eros Music doesn't have a footprint in the south, the sources claim that they are carving out the Tamil music rights and selling to Sony Music.

Recently, Sony had also bought the music rights for Billa 2, Poda Podi and Neethane En Ponvasantham. Ilayaraja and Gautham's Neethane En Ponvasantham was bought for slightly north of Rs. 2 Crores. Sony is becoming a juggernaut in Tamil music industry by securing music rights for almost all big movies
