On the right path
Mohan Raja's follow up to Thani Oruvan is an interesting film. That it was going to be message heavy was obvious but what we have here is a definite intent to not come across as extremely preachy. Intent is the key word here. The oft repeated dialogue in the film about 'action (seyal) is what matter...(more)

Tailor-made as a Sivakarthikeyan show, film packs in social message
Velaikkaran is tailor-made as a Sivakarthikeyan show. It is Siva's best ever performance till date, without his usual comedy gimmicks and romance-that-borders-on-stalking style. This Sivakarthikeyan starrer has its heart in the right place

Sivakarthikeyan, Fahadh Faasil shine in this message-heavy but impactful film
Velaikkaran is no Thani Oruvan, but Mohan Raja deserves praise for investing a lot of time and effort in the former and its quite evident through his research work. The film talks a lot about marketing, understanding consumer dynamics, supply and demand, and the detailing that has gone into making ...(more)

If it works to a certain extent, it is because of the earnestness in the performance of Sivakarthikeyan
For the most part, the film fails to walk the fine line between telling the story of an idealistic youngster and his face-off against a force of ambition, unlike the director's previous film, the fantastic Thani Oruvan, and often resembles an empty rhetoric. There, the message and the detailing was ...(more)

But the direction from Raja is not upto the high expectations. Screenplay especially in second half was flat and stereotypical. Basic concept n... (more)
