There was a time, when the Indian audience had to wait weeks, sometimes even months to watch certain Hollywood movies in theaters. Today, Hollywood movies are releasing in India before their US release.

Avengers, a big hit in India is releasing in the US only today. The movie has already made good money in its international releases. Gone are those days when English movies release months or years after releasing in the US. The trend is changing where Indian audience are watching the movie well before US. Hollywood production houses wait for response from India before releasing in the US.

Tintin was not released days/week in advance but by almost 2 months in advance. This helped the movie garner lot of attention in India. In fact, the release strategy worked great for the producers/distributors since the movie was a monster hit in India while it did only average business in the US markets. Decoupling the release dates helps to strategically decide on release dates considering regional movies and hypes surrounding that time. Also, this enables them get better and more theaters.

The revenue in international markets has been on a steady rise and Hollywood has taken note of the international and emerging markets.
