In Theatres This Week (December 9 - 15 2011)

Simbu's much anticipated Osthe released this weekend. A number of old movies have been re-released this week including Engeyum Eppodhum, Azhagiya Tamil Magan, Coimbatore Mapillai, Urimai Kural, Maatukaara Velan were released this week in Chennai due to lack of commercially viable movies.

• Osthe received mixed response from viewers which is expected to impact the BO run. One of the viewers pointed that there were around 37 times that Simbu, Dharani and others have pulled their collar up in the movie. Another viewer counted the number of times "Osthe Maame" was mentioned in the background music. Such repetitive self-praisals did not go well among audience.

• Mayakkam Enna showed a huge drop off in the 3rd week as occupancy rates even in multiplex theatres registered sharp decline. 

• Poraali is staying low-key due to lack of promotions and luke-warm word-of-mouth as it enters the second week. The exhibitors have retained most of the theatres in Chennai. However, Poraali has been removed from most screens in Malaysia, Bangalore and other territories.

• 7aum Arivu and Velayutham will complete their 50th days in handful of screens next week.
