Robo Shankar's death mourned by the Tamil Film Industry

Popular Tamil comedy actor Robo Shankar, who was known both through TV and films, passed away on September 18, 2025 (Thursday), at the age of 46 in Chennai. Robo Shankar was on the sets of a film when he reportedly fainted and was rushed to GEM Hospital in Perungudi on September 16, 2025 (Tuesday). 

 

On September 17, 2025 (Wednesday), the actor was shifted to the intensive care unit after his condition worsened, and Robo Shankar breathed his last at 8:30 p.m. on September 18, 2025. Survived by his wife Priyankar Shankar, their only daughter Indraja Shankar, son-in-law Karthik, and a grandchild, Robo Shankar in recent years had struggled with health, and was receiving prolonged treatment for jaundice.

 

He also underwent a drastic weight loss in recent years, and the cause of Robo Shankar's death is said to be liver failure. “Robo Shankar was admitted in a critical condition with a massive gastrointestinal bleed and multiorgan dysfunction secondary to a complex abdominal condition. Robo Shankar was managed in the critical care unit with intensive medical management. Despite the best efforts of our multidisciplinary team, his condition deteriorated rapidly”, said Dr. S. Asokan, CEO of GEM Hospital, Perungudi.

 

Robo Shankar's sudden death has left the Tamil film industry in a state of shock, and people from the fraternity have been paying their last respects in person at Robo Shankar's residence, where his mortal remains were kept before his last rites, and on X. 

 

Prominent celebrities and politicians like Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Haasan, Tamil Nadu deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, actors Karthi, Vijay Sethupathi, Sivakarthikeyan, Dhanush, Silambarasan TR, Vishnu Vishal, Vijay Antony, actresses Simran, Kushubu, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Priya Bhavani Shankar, music composer Santhosh Narayanan, veteran comedy actor Senthil, actor Vijay's father and veteran diector SA Chandrasekar, lyricist Snehan and wife Kannika Snekan, comedy actor RJ Balaji, National award winning actor MS Bhaskar, singer Mano, cinematographer turned actor Ilavarasu, were among those who paid their last respects and homages.
