Acclaimed Tamil film director Vetrimaaran turned 50 on September 4, 2025 and marking the occassion, the makers of his new film unveiled a promotional teaser featuring Vetrimaaran's latest hero, Silambarasan TR. The movie is tentatively titled STR 49, and a 36 second STR 49 promo can be viewed here:

STR 49 is set in the same universe as Vetrimaaran's Vada Chennai, a 2018 film headlined and produced by star actor Dhanush. Interestingly Vada Chennai was originally supposed to star Silambarasan TR but it was Dhanush who ended up doing the acclaimed North Chennai gangster drama. 

"We have set 'STR 49' in the same timeline as 'Vada Chennai', but at a different place. Most of the 'Vada Chennai' characters would weave into the 'STR 49' story and then go out. This story on its own is a film, but those characters come and add more drama", Vetrimaaran recently revealed in an interview with THR India.
