MP Kamal Haasan takes Rajya Sabha oath in Tamil

Actor-turned-politician, and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan made his debut at the Indian Parliament on Friday. and in true Kamal Haasan fashion turned heads by taking oath as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) in the Tamil language. 70-year-old Kamal Haasan's oath, translated from Tamil, went,

 

"I, Kamal Haasan, who has been selected as the member of the Rajya Sabha parliament, solemnly swear to have true affection and passion on the constitution of India established by law, stand firm for the sovereignty and unity of India, and promise to honestly fulfill the duty I now undertake. Greetings."  

 

Kamal Haasan was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha on June 12, 2025 with the support of the Tamil Nadu's current ruling party, DMK. MNM is expected to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections as a part of the DMK-led alliance.


 

Prior to taking oath as a Rajya Sabha MP, Kamal Haasan had told the media in Delhi, "I am going to take the oath and register my name in Delhi today. I am going to fulfil this duty with honour given to me as an Indian."
