Writer, director TJ Gnanavel who gained nationwide attention with his direct OTT release Jai Bhim (2021), is seeing a theatrical release with the Rajinikanth lead Vettaiyan, which is set to release on October 10, 2024 for Dussehra. Vettaiyan Prevue, in other words the film's first teaser was unveiled on Friday and it showcases Rajinikanth as a well known encounter specialist among the Indian police officials.
Amitabh Bachchan as Sathyadev, voiced by Prakash Raj is Rajinikanth's superior in Vettaiyan, and he is showcased as someone who is against turning enounter specialists into 'national heroes'. To the unversed, TJ Gnanavel's Jai Bhim showcased Suriya, the protagonist as someone who is dead set against cop atrocities like prison torture and encounters. Prakash Raj played an honest cop in Jai Bim, and even he was not in the good books of Suriya's lawyer character with a human rights principle.
TJ Gnanavel clearly has flipped this ideology in Vettaiyan, making cop Rajinikanth as the enounter protagonist and incidentally a Prakash-Raj-voiced character as human rights check for the Superintendent of Police.
Besides this, we also get to see Fahadh Faasil as Patrick, Manju Warrier as Vettaiyan's wife Thara, Dushara Vijayan as Saranya, Rana Dagguvati as Natraj, Abhirami, Rohini, Kishore, Ritika Singh as police officer Roopa, GM Sundar, Rao Ramesh, Ramesh Thilak, Rakshan, among others.
A Lyca Productions movie, Vettaiyan has Anirudh Ravichander for music, SR Kathir for cinematography, Anbariv for action, B Kiruthika for screenplay and Philomin Raj for edits. Vettaiyan is scheduled to release in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada languages.
