Mari Selvaraj directed political thriller Maamannan starring Udhayanidhi Stalin, Vadivelu, Fahadh Faasil and Keerthy Suresh in the lead, released in theaters on June 29, 2023. The Telugu version of the movie titled Nayakudu released in theaters on July 14, 2023. The film with AR Rahman for music is now all set for a digital premiere on Netflix. The streaming platform has officially announced Maamannan's OTT release date to be July 27, 2023 [Thursday]. 

Maamannan will stream in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages. Produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies, Maamannan is the DMK MLA's last film as an actor, and is loosely based on AIADMK politician P. Dhanapal, who served as the 13th speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for two consecutive terms.

P. Dhanapal became the first Dalit speaker of the state after his 2011 win from the Rasipuram constituency. The film Mamannan references this as Kasipuram, with Vadivelu playing Dhanapal's character. Udhayanidhi Stalin plays a regional martial arts trainer named Athiveeran who is estranged from his father after a casteist encounter growing up, but is reunited once he sees his father also facing the same.

How this father-son duo take on the obstacles put forth by Rathnavelu (Fahadh Faasil) to establish control in politics forms the rest of the story. Maamannan comes with a runtime of 2 hours 35 minutes.
