A Chennai based cancer patient's story was shared by the city's famous Apollo Hospitals after she started singing Ilayaraja's songs under anaesthesia during an operation. The Instagram handle of Appollo hospital shared that Ms. Seethalakshmi, a Breast cancer warrior, was operated on with local anaesthesia due to her physical condition and in her subconscious state, she started humming the music maestro's tunes.

They shared, "Her vitals got better and became stable as she kept singing and humming. We knew the patient was a trained singer but what happened inside the operating theatre was something magical! She sang songs that made her happy. We noticed a common aspect in all the songs she sang - songs of Maestro Illaiyaraja! To see a patient undergoing a palliative mastectomy procedure singing his songs to ease her anxiety during the surgery was incredible! For the entire team, it was truly out of this world experience to witness something like this."

Team Appollo decided to share the story with Ilayaraja himself and ended up setting a meeting between the two parties. Sharing a picture from that moment, they wrote,

When we asked her if she likes him, she replied, “Obviously, yes! Who doesn’t like him! He is a legend.” And, post the surgery the clinical team couldn’t contain their excitement from sharing the experience with their colleagues at APCC.

A few days later, our communication team contacted the doctor and said, “Doctor, we heard that our patient is a big fan of Ilayaraja. So, we are trying to get sir’s appointment to meet her in person. We hope this will make her happy and help her recover faster.” Can this get any better?

It was like a dream! The team reached Illaiyaraja sir’s residence with Ms. Seethalakshmi. She was truly excited to meet him! And after a few minutes, the moment we were waiting for.. just happened! She met him. He spent some quality time with the team, shared his stories, took pictures with us, and made her feel at home. This is an experience that we will never forget!
