May 2021 Movies on Netflix, Disney Plus Hotstar, Zee 5, Amazon Prime Video!

[Updated: May 10, 2021] With theaters shut-down, movies in India are back to releasing on OTT platforms. Some movies are also gearing up to make their digital debut this month post their theatrical run. Movies to watch out for in May, 2021 in their order of release:


1. Milestone / Meel Patthar (Netflix - May 7)


The story of a truck driver struggling to cope with the grief of his wife’s death and potential job loss is what Milestone / Meel Patthar is about. Ivan Ayr, whose previous outing Soni was appreciated for highlighting crimes against women in Delhi, has directed this one.


2. Kaaval Thurai Ungal Nanban (Zee 5 - May 7)


The story of a young man who gets into a tussle with the cops while on his way to make a complaint about his wife being robbed, this RDM directed movie is as harrowing as it gets. The film released in November, 2020 and is making its digital premiere in India on this date.

 

3. Time to Dance (Netflix - May 7)


Time To Dance is a Hindi movie starring Isabelle Kaif )Katrina Kaif's sister) and Sooraj Pancholi. The movie takes place in the world of ballroom dancing and is making its digital premiere after releasing in theaters this March.

 

4. Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele (Disney Plus Hotstar - May 9)


A road trip movie about a girl who is openly gay and a boy who is still hiding his sexuality, this upcoming Hindi movie stars Zareen Khan and Anshuman Jha in the lead.


5. Hero (Zee 5 - May 9)


A Kannada black comedy directed by debutant M. Bharath Raj, this critically acclaimed movie released in the March of this year and is making its digital debut on this date.  The movie is about a barber who chances upon his ex-lover in a gangster's house and tries to help her escape.

 

6. Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai (Zee Plex - May 13) 


A star-vehicle made for theater audience, Salman Khan starrer Radhe is a highly anticipated entertainer that is releasin on pay-per-view basis. The movie is directed by Prabhu Deva and stars Disha Patani as female lead.


7. Nenjam Marapathillai (Zee 5 - May 14)


A psychological horror thriller by Selvaraghavan, Nenjam Marapathillai is another acclaimed movie from this year which is making its digital debut. The movie stars SJ Suryah, Regina Cassandra and Nandita Sweta among others.

  

8.Cinema Bandi (Netflix - May 14)


A new Telugu comedy drama written and directed by debutant Praveen Kandregula, the movie is about an autorickshaw driver from a small village who discovers a camera and immediately sets out to shoot a movie with it.


9. The Woman In The Window (Netflix - May 14)


A Brand new thriller starring Amy Adams, the movie is an adaption of a book of the same name. The movie is about an agoraphobic woman who begins spying on her new neighbours, and ends up witnessing a disturbing act of violence.


10. Battala Ramaswamy Biopikku (Zee 5 - May 14)


This brand new Telugu movie is a comedy drama and as the name suggests is the biopic of a comman man.

 

11. Karnan (Amazon Prime Video - May 14)


This Mari Selvaraj directorial starring Dhanush in the lead is hardly over a month old and Dhanush plays the titular character of a fearless village youth, who fights for the rights of his caste-oppressed people.

 

12. Wonder Woman 1984 (Amazon Prime Video - May 15)


A sequel to Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, this DC superhero movie is making its OTT premiere in India on this date.

  

13. Sardar Ka Grandson (Netflix - May 18)


A devoted grandson’s mission to reunite his ailing grandmother with her ancestral home turns into a complicated, comic cross-border affair. The movie stars Arjun Kapoor, Neena Gupta, Rakul Preet Singh, Soni Razdan among others. 

 

14.  Army of the Dead (Netflix - May 21)


A group of military mercenaries set out to rob a Las Vegas casino during a zombie outbreak. The movie stars Huma Qureshi, David Bautista, Ella Purnell, Tig Notaro among others.

 

15. Oslo (Disney Plus Hotstar)


Also releasing this month is the Ruth Wilson, Andrew Scott starrer Oslo which is adapted from a Tony Award-winning play of the same name. The movie follows a true story of negotiations between Israel and Palestine that led to the 1993 Oslo Peace Accords.
