Composer A.R. Rahman's debut film production 99 Songs recently had a grand audio launch where stars from all walks of the Tamil filmdom made an appearance to show support. Talk of the evening though was A.R. Rahman walking off stage when the host started speaking in Hindi; This however was a joke. (more details below).
Since the event is being talked about even now, we decided to sum up all highlights from the audio launch here:
- The host who was communicating in Tamil switched briefly to Hindi to welcome 99 Songs' hero Ehan Bhat, since the actor does not understand Tamil. This happened to be at a time when Rahman was already motioned to walk off the podium for something else and the Mozart of Madras used it timely to exclaim "Hindi?" and walked off-stage. Rahman then stated he was only joking and the host too took it sportively.
- As reported by us previously, G.V. Prakash has dubbed for the lead's voice in Tamil. So when he was on stage with his contemporaries Anirudh and Yuvan, Rahman revealed that it was his son A.R. Ameen's idea to invite big names to the event. Rahman also apologized stating that he couldn't invite many people because of the COVID-19 situation.
- Anirudh revealed during this time that he and his friend composer Leon James started off their music inspiration when they took part in an event to only meet A.R. Rahman and he gifted the then boys with music keyboards.
- The most explosive revelation came from actor Sivakarthikeyan who was bumbling with energy on stage. Sivakarthikeyan recalled that when he had an opportunity to host a music award with Vijay TV, he had thought of a question for over an hour and asked Rahman what the difference was between Rahman pre and post Oscars. The actor's aim back then was to leave a lasting impression on Rahman but being a man of few words, A.R.R. simply replied "age".
- Director SJ Suryah stated a lesser known fact about A.R.R. on stage. He said that just like Ajith finds recreation in race cars and other stuff, Rahman usually spends his free time practising movie editing, video editing and such stuff. Rahman on his part said that over the last 10 years S.J. Suryah and him have had a lot of jamming sessions, so they are mutually exclusive to each others' secrets.
- Everyone who was present was all praises for the lead actor Ehan Bhatt. Gautham Menon who has penned the Tamil dialogues for the dubbed version revealed that he has seen the movie develop from close quarters right from the beginning and said, "Rahman has not worked on this movie; he has sculpted it".
99 Songs releases in theaters on April 16, 2021. The movie directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy also stars Edilsy Vargas, Aditya Seal, Lisa Ray, Manisha Koirala among others.
