It is a well known fact among Tamil film circles that Shankar directed Indian 2 which stars Kamal Haasan in the lead, is facing production delays for varied reasons. For starters, the crew faced an unfortunate accident back in February and then came the filming restrictions due to Coronavirus COVID-19 lockdown. 

Now Kollywood is slowly but surely reviving but Indian 2 backed by Lyca Productions continues to be in a production pickle. At this time, word has emerged that director Shankar is shifting focus on a script he had worked on even before Indian 2, which is a sequel to his 1999 super-hit movie Mudhalvan.

Mudhalvan 2 was highly buzzed at one point in 2019 and back then it was claimed that Shankar was on the look-out for top stars to play lead in his movie. Looks like Shankar has revived his plans of making the sequel to his political thriller and it remains to be seen if something concrete comes out of it this time around.
