Netflix in talks with 3 Tamil films for direct OTT Release!

Following the bulk release of Indian movies on Amazon Prime Video, OTT platform Netflix is following suit as it has been revealed that they are in talks with at-least 3 mid-sized Tamil movies. The practice of bypassing theatrical run for films in Kollywood was first brought about by Suriya's home production Pon Magal Vandhal which initially faced a lot of opposition from theater owners but was eventually confirmed to release on Amazon Prime on May 29, 2020.

The decision was taken keeping in mind the budget of the film and the release delay being caused to the pandemic Coronavirus. Small budget movies such as Keerthy Suresh's Penguin and Amitabh Bachchan's Gulabo Sitabo followed suit further irking multiplex owners but the movie audience seems to understand the plight of such film producers, especially with the economy not looking so good until November

Even then since big-budget movies are expected to take precedence in theater screens, more and more small and mid-sized movies are now taking the OTT route.
