Rare Photos of Late Director Mahendran

 

On Early Tuesday morning, director Mahendran, one of Tamil film industry's finest passed away after being critically ill for over a week. The 79 year old director who has landmark films like Mullum Malarum, the 3 National award winning Nenjathai Killathae, Saasanam among other films to his credit, had been battling kidney-related ailments for a while now. 

While the entire Tamil filmdom and fans mourn the loss of the veteran, we decided to take a look back at some rare photos of him over time:

Born in 1939, Mahendran was first noticed by MGR when the college going former gave a bold speech criticizing the commercial elements in cinema. He has directed 12 film in total besides writing scripts dialogues for various films and he turned to acting in 2016 with Vijay, Atlee's Theri. 

Mahendran has since acted in films such as Nimir, Seethakaathi, Petta, Bommerang among others in his lifetime.
