Thalapathy VIjay starrer Sarkar has had a superb start all over the world. The film received average to good reviews from the audience and critics. The film on its day 1 has breached earlier box office records in Tamil Nadu and is estimated to have done a Rs. 50 Cr+ gross on day 1, across the world.
Domestic market: Film sets a new milestone in Tamil Nadu & Kerala
According to trade pundits, the film is estimated to have grossed Rs. 30 Cr in Tamil Nadu, which is highest for any film in the state on day 1 and in doing so has beaten the record of Vijay's earlier film Mersal, that grossed Rs. 23 Cr on day 1.
In Kerala, Sarkar is said to have collected a Rs. 3 Cr just from advance bookings; the state has been treating the A.R. Murugadoss directorial like a direct Malayalam release and the final numbers from that region is estimated to be above Rs. 6 Cr, making Sarkar the highest day 1 grosser in the state beating Baahubali 2. Similarly Karanataka and Andhra/Telangana regions have given the movie a decent start too.
Thanks to the combination of Vijay, A.R. Murgadoss, and A.R. Rahman, Sarkar has had a good demand in rest of India as well. According to popular Bollywood tracker Taran Adarsh, theaters in Mumbai are seen adding additional screens to meet the demand.
Overseas Market: Good Start
Sarkar has been receiving a great response in the overseas market too. In France the film has set a new premiere record with 2160 Entries while previous best was Kabali with 2064 entries. The end of day 1 numbers for Sarkar stand at 4019 entries.
In Australia, the film has day 1 gross of A$ 219,000 , which is an all time record opening for a Tamil movie in Australia. Here again the previous record holder was Rajinikanth's Kabali with a day 1 gross of A$ 200K.
In USA, Sarkar has grossed $335K. This is the second best day 1 report for a Vijay starrer, standing only next to Mersal's day 1 gross of $ 358K in the country.
In UK, the film has grossed £122,513 on day 1, while In Singapore, the movie has collected close to Rs. 3 Cr. on day 1.
With weekend approaching and advance bookings going steady at every place for Sarkar, the trade is expecting that this film will recover it cost soon.
