Thevar Magan was one of Kamal Haasan's blockbuster movies from 1992 which went on to win 5 National awards and co-starred names like Revathi, Gauthami, Sivaji Ganesan and Vadivelu. In a recent interactive session, Haasan confirmed that post Indian 2 he will be working on Thevar Magan 2, a decision that has come as a total surprise for his fans.
Thevar Magan was a film that came with the message for reforming one of Tamil Nadu's then dominant castes, the Thevar community through education and civility. However, several critiques have seen the film as a glorification of the Thevar caste pride, with some objecting to equating violence with the said community while others objecting to celebrating the said community on-screen.
And since Haasan has been the flag-bearer of caste abolition in the state (He famously refused to leave the caste column blank in his daugher Akshara Haasan's school application), Kamal's announcement of Thevar Magan 2 has been met with some questions on his take on caste.
