Shankar reveals 2.0 was named after A.R. Rahman's score from Enthiran & other interesting details!

Ever since director Shankar began 2.0, all eyes have been on the film and recently, the director was seen giving a detailed interview to a news channel about his movie, which is hitting theatre screens on November 29, 2018. Excerpts from some of the interesting details he revealed are listed below:

  • Contrary to popular belief, Akshay Kumar's character in the movie is not named Dr. Richard as revealed by Shankar. He also busted the myth that Akshay's avatar in the movie is that of a crow-man. However he neither denied nor confirmed the fan theory that in 2.0 Akshay's character wreaks havoc on human-kind when it finds out that their usage of cell-phones leads to a total extinction of a bird species.

  • Shankar revealed that the title 2.0 was stuck in his mind ever since A.R. Rahman came up with this background music for Enthiran and he decided to use the same as his sequel's title. He also revealed that the idea for sequel sparked from this visual he had of numerous cell phones flying up which can be seen in the teaser as well.

  • Shankar revealed that the bird which was seen in the opening shot of the teaser took maximum time to conceptualize and materialize on-screen and it was only during the third attempt did it get finalized.

"The VFX.. bird that you see in teaser, it didn't come the way I had imagined (in a state of shock). we went through a lot of concept arts and worked for months and months just to designing that bird. So we started from scratch after spending so many months and still i didn't like the way it had come out. Then after consulting experts from all over the world, this (the bird) came the way I had imagined."

  • Shankar said that one-third of the film's budget which is roughly between Rs.500- Rs.550 crore was spent on the 2100+ VFX shots in the film. The VFX work was compiled in places like London, Montreal, Ukraine and Bulgaria and was last worked on by the Oscar winning VFX company Double Negative, which has worked on films like Blade Runner and Marvel movies.
