After a slow start this year, 2012 saw a record number of new talented music directors coming to the fore. Gone are the days when one or two music directors dominated the music scene. It has been one of the best years for Tamil industry with so many new and resurgent talents who brought in their own unique style willing to experiment with new genres of music. 

 

Nomination List of Music Directors 


Harris Jayaraj released 4 high profile music albums this year, higher than his average number of movies he typically works in one year. Ilayaraja's much acclaimed Neethane En Ponvasantham brought back the magic of 80s and 90s again. Anirudh made a confident entry with his "3". He proved his kolaveri is not a fluke with all the songs in the entire album rocking the charts. Other new entrants like Ved Shankar, Satish Chakravarty, Santosh Narayanan, Achu made their mark silently.

 

Imman made a tremendous comeback with Kumki and Manam Kothi Paravai. Dharan and Vijay Ebenezer delivered fresh albums in Poda Podi and Kalakalappu, respectively. Young music director K made his presence felt by occupying the top slot on the music chart with his "Vaaya Moodi" from Mugamoodi.

 

Yuvan and GV Prakash stood up against onslaught of competition from newcomers. Music took a back seat for Vijay Antony as the music director decided to become an actor and producer with Naan. Thaman and MM Keeravani did well to keep both the Telugu and Tamil audience entertained.
