Movie Review Sins and how it is killing Tamil Films - Part 1

A new problem that has popped this year is how new breed of critics that are becoming Friday Film Killers. We will discuss in multi-part series some standard sins committed by Tamil reviewers and the ones guilty of such sins

Sin  1 - Cynicism, Mockery and Sarcasm

There are a number of popular reviewers who thrive on cynicism, mockery, sarcasm,  நையாண்டி, and  நக்கல். Unlike real reviewers who struggle for the right word to precisely express their opinions about the movie, the intention of this breed of reviewers is to say something nasty that will make them look funny at the expense of the movie they are criticizing. Their goal is to find ways to comes up with witty one-liners irrespective of whether there is truth behind such comments.

A few prominent reviewers resorting such sarcasm and mockery are Big 92.7 FM RJ Balaji and Indiaglitz Bosskey. Big FM RJ Balaji has better sense of humor unlike Bosskey who is annoyingly repetitive. Both these reviewers have landed their parent organizations, who primarily depends on film industry for content and advertisement revenue, in trouble. 

Director Lakshmy responds Bosskey Cynical Review

Bosskey reviewed the just released Lakshmy Ramakrishnan's Aarohanam in his usual templatized format filled with his standard comments. The director Lakshmy shot back sharply in her tweets. We will play back exactly what the Aarohanam director had to say about Bosskey and his reviews.

"Critics have the right to comment, but mocking people in the name of criticism is unacceptable. படத்த  கிழி கிழின்னு கிழிக்கலாம், but dont mock people... It kills the spirit! I was upset about the personal comments, he could have said anything about the movie, Audience have every right to criticize as they pay from their pocket. Bosskey takes money to mock other's efforts! Wake up guys! Either all those great technicians and viewers who spoke about Aarohanam were wrong or else bosskey is a fool! You decide...It needs some stuff to get the point, naturally we dont expect it from you, bosskey!"

Bottomline: These mocking reviews should be given whatever little respect it deserves. These reviewers don't take movies nor the film-making seriously. In return, the viewers should refrain from taking these reviewers nor their reviews seriously.
