Pizza Movie review - Hot and Spicy

by Raven

Pizza, isn’t the name catchy for a film? There is more to this film than just the catchy title. Karthik Subbaraj, famous short film maker has made his dream debut into feature films with this movie. Pizza does not start on a conventional note, nor does it end in a usual way any Tamil film would end. Also, everything else that happens in the middle engages you. It is not very often you would get to see a film like this in Tamil.

Plot

Michael (Vijay Sethupathy) and Anu (Remya Nambeesan) are in a live-in relationship. Michael works at a pizza shop and when he goes for one of the pizza deliveries, he experiences some horrifying incidents. Revealing the plot any more would reduce the thrill for you when you watch the movie.

Performances

Vijay Sethupathy, who was last seen in Sundarapandian, looks stunning in the film. The way he expresses the shock and anxiety is something for you to see and believe. He is sure to stay here and do not be surprised if he goes places.

Remya Nambeesan fits in the role perfectly. She looks bubbly and expressive in the first half but she loses her screen presence in the second half. There are no complaints as the script warrants it. The supporting cast includes Simha, Pooja and Narain. They are efficient in their roles and help the movie to move forward smoothly.

Technicalities

Santhosh Narayanan has done a fabulous job as a music director. The songs in the first half sound classy and his background score plays a very vital role in creating the wholesome horror experience.

Gopi Amarnath, who was praised for his rich visuals in Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakkathilaey has done the cinematography for this film. He has worked with very limited light source and his lighting sense is brilliant.  Editing by Leo John Paul is sharp.

Script and Direction – Karthik Subbaraj

Hits

  • Director Karthik Subbaraj has made sure that he would not bring in the usual elements that are associated with a thriller/horror movie.
  • There are plenty of suspense elements in the film and you will be glued to the film throughout.
  • Karthik’s casting is impeccable and these lesser known stars have made this film a different experience altogether.
  • Karthik’s command over the medium is amazing. He has stayed within the script and does not go over the top in any scene.

 Miss(es)

  • There is no real flaw as such. Perhaps, romance element stretched a little longer in the first half.

Bottomline

Grab this Pizza at your nearest cinemas. Every bite of this pizza tastes hot and spicy.
