Maattrraan stabilizes, Promotion Steps up

In the past, Suriya's movies such as Vaaranam Aayiram and 7aum Arivu were heavily criticized during the opening week by FDFS movie buffs and critics. But, both movies turned around after first week and had a decent run at the box office. For example, 7aum Arivu which was initially written off promptly, eventually found its footing to make steady collections compared to its Diwali competitor, Velayudham (Multiplex BO - 7aum Arivu, Velayudham, Mankatha)

Maattrraan stabilizes after overcoming severe bashing from Critics

So far, most leading critics at major online and print media have focused only on the negatives of Maattrraan in their reviews. But, the neutral and family audience seems to be noticing the brighter side of the movie, such as unique emotions of conjoined twins, mix of message+commercial elements despite slower pace in the second half.

The dichotomy of divergent opinions between critics and general public are wider than ever before for Maattrraan. For instance, The Hindu's dismissive review, BIG FM Balaji's scathing review of Maattrraan (in his usual self) and Vikatan publishing a photo-shopped image of Gouravam Sivaji during 1st half, 2nd half and climax lampooning Maattrraan are just a few examples of below the belt attacks.

Maattrraan steps up promotions

Despite strong criticism from media houses, theatre managers at major multiplexes have a different story to tell. They have decided to retain most of the shows after observing better than expected advanced bookings for this Friday and over the weekend. Encouraged by support from general public, Maattrraan team has also stepped up its promotional efforts including the much awaited behind-the-scenes video of the conjoined twins will be broadcast on Ayudha Pooja. This shooting spot video is expected to reveal some stunning never-before scene footage.

With no competition from other big movies until Diwali and ayudha pooja holidays ahead, people in the trade are betting for a Maattrraan recovery. We will have to wait and see until next week.
