Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum - Falls short for a time-pass flick and ends up as a harmless watch

Plot : A courier boy is on the run from a medical mafia.

Debutant director Premsai does a few things right. The run-time is kept intact. The lighthearted treatment too works with Santhanam's one liners bringing a chuckle or two. The romantic track, however silly it is, does not leave you scratching your head.This is primarily because of Jai who can make these scenes work with that innocent charm of his. It is quite surprising that this actor has not really moved up the ranks in terms of saleability as a star. He might be monotonous but his performance usually resonates with the type of audience who determine whether an actor can be a star. 

This film should have really been worth to kill 2 hours. But it settles well below. The major reason is that we never really get involved with the proceedings on screen. Few jokes work and we are waiting for the next one liner. But the plot itself never really kickstarts in the initial hour. A general feel of disinterest prevails throughout. Take the title itself for instance. For a film named Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum it hardly registers in us that the name of the hero is Tamilselvan.

At two crucial junctures in the film Santhanam relies on Jai to deliver a parcel as he(Santhanam) is supposed to be in court as a witness. We really do not get to know what this case is about actually. Thambi Ramiah plays a crucial part in the film and we do not know what his name actually is. He is called Manikanadan few times and Manikkam once!!! (looks highly improbable that this might have been done on purpose for any specific reason)

Bottomline:

Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum turns out to be the sort of film that works as a harmless watch. But you really wished it was much more with all its potential.The courier has been delivered. But there is nothing much inside the parcel.
