It is an emotional film and an interesting take on live in relationships. On multiple watching and analysis, the screenplay doesn't feel as strong compared to his previous films like Mounaragam, Alaipayuthe. (more)

Oh Kaadhal Kanmani - Review by Rsquared Mani sir always be a trendsetter with brand new thinking. His movies create a new buzz among young generations. Mouna raagam deals with divorce in 80s. Alaipaayuthye deals with youngster's selfish love in 2000. Now, OK Kanmani deals another daring subject which is more popular among urban youths which is living together. Alaipaayuthye team yet again with another awsesome romantic venture of current generations youths. Mani sir, PC sir, Sreekar sir,Vairamuthu sir & ARR all are above 50 now. But the output is youthful romantic film . How is it possible? they proved that there is no age limit for Love and romance. PLOT: OKK is all about the care free youngsters of this generations. What they are want to do? what they don't want to do? And the film talk about the Beautiful relationship between Aadi and Tara. They are don't want to get married and living together. They are ultra modern youths but they have cultural emotions internally. Mani sir explains a lot about their attitude. CAST and CREW: Dulquer is a handsome stylish youth and does his job neatly. Nithya steals the show with her cute expressions. Chemistry between Aadi and Tara is pakka. Prakash raj what an actor he is? his screen presence is awesome. Leela also done very neat job. Ganapathy-Bhavani pair overtakes Aadi-Tara pair sometime. OKK is technically awesome. Mani-Pc sreeram sir combo is back with bang. His camera done magic . Sreekar prasad sir's cuts make Manirathnam's film is so crispy ever. Dailogues are as usual sharp and beautiful. A.R.Rahman done a tremendous job. Songs are already chart buster. BGM is extraordinary. Animations in Game designing are fabulous. Plus: Hats off to Mani sir to be 100 percent orginal to script without any commercial compromises. There is no unwanted comedy and actions. There is only full of emotions. Songs are also traveled along with story line. Music is major plus point of film. Mani sir's crispy dialogues and feel good screenplay fills our heart with lots of love. Downside: So sorry guys. Can't find major -ves in OKK. May be slow paced first half would be a negative point, Otherwise OK Kanmani double ok. Verdict : OKK is not just a romantic film. It gives u Such a fell good lovely experience. Must watch category. Mani sir back with bang. Rating: 4.5/5 (more)

Filmmaker knows very well about the pulse of audience, made this wonderful love journey with limited number of passengers. No dramatic, No exaggeration on screenplay, Music fits to the situation and tunes as usual, AR Rahman's tunes melts our heart (especially - Malargal Kettean by K.S. Chithra), PC Sreeram splendid work.. Best of the recent love stories. Must Watch. (more)

After a couple of experiments that bombed at the box office and more importantly failed to impress audiences, the humble persona is back with an Alayaputheisque love story, and boy does he excel on familiar forte. You remember experiencing the shear disgust when Revathi exclaims Kamlbi Poochi Oora Madhiri Irruku? Or the heartwarming grin when Maddy proposes to Shailini in the train? There was certain sophistication even in the simplicity of those sequences. Okay Kanmani is almost a reminder that the filmmaker who made Raavanan and Kadal is the same French bearded, soft spoken man we all knew once and loved. The film is a string of beautifully written sequence of events in the lives of two couples and their differences in mindset, values and approach to life. I am sure that scripting a contemporary romantic film sans a judgmental undercurrent must have been a daunting task for the filmmaker. However, the film is a conscious attempt to kindle a sense of self-realization among the Aadis and Taras out there. Prakash Raj's character is only a wake up call that change is inevitable and a necessary aspect of life. Consequently, the superficial nature of the story is also a genuine attempt at imitation. A real couple these days is at times, THAT superficial.It almost makes you wonder if the director got inspired by Jim Careys The Truman Show and filmed a real life couple using candid cameras. Films that bear a realistic tone, with underplayed emotions and subtlety have always appealed to me given their relatability. The performances of the lead characters despite the constraints of being a live-recording picture are blissful. In the blink of an eye, the veteran actor makes you forget the diverse characters he has portrayed in the past and excels as Ganapathy. Thats the beauty of the film. Be it the well-designed offices of the urban couple, or the artistically decorated interior of the house the older couple reside in, it all just fits in. The extent of detailing is bound to impress you especially when Prakash Raj shouts Rasam is ready, get the plates and you see the Eeya Chombu on the burner. Top notch stuff. Leela Samson shows no traces of a debutante and plays an intense character with utmost ease and poignance. It is really amazing and almost unexplainable how the Ratnam-ARR combo has worked wonders across almost three generations. The original soundtrack of the film is a manifestation of the symbiotic relationship the filmmaker-musician duo share. To be honest, I didn't enjoy the music on first listen but they are strategically woven into the narrative and add to the visual serenity. This movie certainly brings back memories of the infinite times I watched Kannathil Muthamittal on Ktv. I can certainly see that happening with this film. (more)

#Ok_Kanamani I, Being a Fan Of Maniratnam sir Literally Cried While the Movie Gets Applause from the Audience for Every 3 Minutes... iam Not Sure About the Overall Responce of the Movie but When you Stand out From the Audience and Watch the Movie in the Makers Point of View You Can See the Magic That Mani Sir Had Made.. The way he Settle down the Audience and The Way he Pulls them into The Move and then Make them Travell With Adhi & Tara and Finally Make the audience Go Out With a Pretty Smle On Their Faces.. At Many Places in the Movie i Caught Myself Smiling Not Becasue Of the Humor but Because of the Overloaded Cuteness... The best Part Of Mani Sir's Movies is the Realistic Essence., You will Never Feel That you are Watching a Movie Until the Movie Ends You Will be just Into It, Ok Kanmani is also one such.. And i Feel its the Most Toughest Thing to do so But Mani Sir is Doing it Just Like that.... the "Dialogues" ... Mani Sir Usually Says that "Dialogues" in the movies should not be Dialogues it should Be a "Conversation" (there is a lot of Difference Between those Two) and I can see that in this Movie... the Characters dont just speak out the Dialogues they Talk to Each Other.. The Conversations in the Movie are soo soooo Realistic (Especially in the Marriage scene Where Adhi & Tara list down the things in Marriage Life and When Adhi says "Kadhal,..Kamam" Tara will be Saying "Aama Kandipa Kamam.." That Conversation is such a Realistic One) Each and Every scene just made me smile Inside... P.C sir's Cinematography..The visuals are like a Beautifully Wrapped Up Gift.. Both the In Doors and Out Doors of Mumbai Have been Shown in a Fresh and Astonishing Way.., I Cant just take my eyes away from any of Those Shots.. When the First time i Watched this Movie I missed many of the Scenes Just by Wondering how P.C Sir Made this Shot, How he thought of Keeping an Angle Like this, Where Does he Placed those Lights.. (Especially the Kitchen Shot where Ganapathy i mean Prakash Raj sir was telling Adhi to take Bhavani Aunty to the katcheri and P.C sir Placed the Shot beside the Cooker while the Vapour from it blurs the Subject and then clears and then blurs then again clears that was Realistic to the Core i Wonder how a Man can think a Shot like that).. A.R.R's Music... it is like the Extra Life you get in Video Games.. when the Scenes itself is Beautiful His Music give extra Beautifulness to the picture.. the Gaming Sequences in this Movie have been Taken to the Next Level by Aattakaara Song... and Mental Manadhil was a Magic.. i Personally Loved Maula va Salim in A.R.Ameen's Cute Voice <3 just Loved it... the Characters... #Adhi DQS fits in Perfect, his Tamil Slang and the Cute Reactions sure he has Way to Go in Tamil Cinema no Wonder in people saying that he is the Next Maddy... #Tara the Kanmani Nitya Menon iam Sure Nobody Ever can do this Character with such a Beautifulness other than her.. Her Smile Her Pranks and those Reactions after that.. WoW.. You can Just Say Ok Kanmani for her Experssions.. the Perfect Kanmani <3 #Ganapathy Prakash Raj Sir, You can see His Love on His Eyes... His Acting was a Major plus in this Movie.. i never felt he is Acting at any Point... #Bhavani Leela Samson, Justified the Character ... Very well made Character by Mani Sir.. This Abnormal Women is the one who makes you smile at Many Places and the Point is You Laugh because of Her and Not at Her.. and thats Why this Character is so Special.. On the Whole as a Maniratnam Fan i just cant Come out of the Movie yet.. i Guess all the Mani Sir fans Have felt the Same Magic inside as of Me.. and if You have read this Fully thanks a Lot... Kamal Haasan does Different Roles, Takes Different forms over many decades now, but Kamal Haasan as a person is the same ! This will suite for 'Love' too ! Thats what the ace director Mani Ratnam conveys through this beautiful feel sane movie. Love over the periods have taken a lot of forms influenced from so many sources possible, till the latest 'Live-in' relationship.But, the essence of 'Love' - Being Loved , Being Possessive , Being Angry and the atmost Being Together.The Victory of a director lies in the moment, when he makes the audience feel what the character on-screen feels-make them travel along with the on-screen characters.I was completely into the Film, Smiling-Laughing-Crying everywhere it meant to be. I must say this is one of the finest story telling in recent times.Every character in the film gets into you, be it Adi or Tara or Ganapathy! Dulqur is here to stay in Tamil Industry for sure.He is simply outstanding in the last 30 minutes and what will i say about Nithya ! You Brilliance ! She smiles with her mouth and cries with her eyes as if they belonged to different bodies! Nithya, you deserve much more than what you had till now in Tamil. The old couple plays their role to finest effect possible. The humor element throughout is brilliant. Im sure, if you are a cinematographer/Camera Person you cant enjoy the movie,but thinking of how did PC made this shot / How did he light up this scene etc ! One Word-Brilliance.ARR's exsistence was unknown, which means he has won it hands down, Beautiful sound tracks which were like BGM to enhance the mood.And Finally, Mani sir, Im sure you are inspiring another bunch of To-Be 'Directors' of the next Decade.
